Haven't live there, but have spent considerable time there.
Seems like a smaller (and older) version of Singapore. Slightly nicer beaches though. No public transport like Singapore, you would have to drive. Some good restaurants, clubs and pubs. Lots of expats and Western tourists around. Lots of nice place to live. English is in widespread use, and working culture in MNC's seems about the same as here, maybe a little slower paced but nothing like Pahang or Terengganu. Penang is the most Chinese state in Malaysia, so the Chinese majority is another similarity to Singapore.
I would live there, overall a nice place.
