Just a general question when applying for jobs out of The Straits Times:
What does everyone put for the expected salary? Just the salary component or do you include housing etc allowances.
Do some people put less than they really expect hoping to get an interview and then try and up the ante.

Cute answer C++ but I'm not after a fatcat expat package and would like some serious answers especially from those who have been successful in finding a job in Singapore.
How about you describing how you got your job and if you asked for what you ended up with.

Hi, I found my job here in the Straits Times - I applied for ages before I got this one and the reason why was because I was pricing myself to high (only local packages here I'm afraid) - Go for between $3-$5 per month with 14 days holiday - you should get lucky!

Good luck

My wife used the salary that she actually expected to receive.  Just after moving here she asked for 80% of the salary that she last earned in the US.  She also found that many times employers were interested in her latest drawn salary as well - thus opening the topic for discussion.  While 80% was still much too high she did eventually find something.
