Hi All,

I got a 2 yr contract in software development in Singapore and have been offered the following package:

SGD 60000 basic salary
medical

I am married. Would this be OK as per current cost of living?

Unless you spend more than 2k a month on luxury (like going to a karaoke bar every night) 60k is more than enough.

Rent can be from S$800 to 2000 a month depending on where and how you live. Food-n-stuff I'd estimate about 1k. The rest is up to you to do with what you please.

$5k/month is perfectly good to live on here.  Rents are tumbling, taxes are low and as long a s you like 'local' food (being malay, indian, chinese ...).  Sadly some of my felloow expats from caucasian countries compalin of the cost of living because they mostly dine in western resaturants.

Live a 'normal' lifestyle here and your income is ample.

Have fun and welcome to Singapore

I guess it doesn't sound too bad but it's not alot for a family. You should try to get them to pay an amount for accommodation per month to lower your expenses. Also note that just in setting up here it costs 4 months rent up front (2mths deposit, 1mth in advance and 1mth for agents fees) so thats a big chunk straight up front out of your pocket. You should go for more.

it really depends raj!. also how much you earn currently. with 5.5K monthly with wife and one kid, you could be able to save about 1.5K if you lead a normal life. maybe 2K montly if no kids. If more than one kid, forget about saving
