Hi there,

I have a quick question to Brits. I just moved in to UK from Singapore and planning to set up my own telecommunications/networking consultancy business in here. The regulations and process seems a lot more complex then Singapore. Do I really need a solicitor to set up the company for me or can I follow the web resources to set it up propery. What is the common way in UK?

Cheers

It has been about 10 years since I set up a company in the UK so my experience may no longer be valid. At that time weekly advertising papers like Exchange and Mart were full of agents that would let you buy off the shelf companies, or set a new one up for you for a very nominal fee. I never involved a solicitor when I set one up.

appears to be your second language, as evidenced by the standard of your post, getting a solicitor to help you may be the best advice

You don't need a solicitor to set up a company for you. It's a simple process which can be done by company incorporation agents and should only cost around £100

BUT

They will not give you any legal advice on the operation of the company, director's responsibilities etc, nor on any regulatory matters. I would suggest that you will need a solicitor for those aspects, and possibly to cast his eye over any contracts.
