Hi
You didn't say where you want to adopt a baby from. My girlfriend has adopted two children from Vietnam and I could ask her, if you like, "where to start".

Hi Gab,
We would appreciate any information you could share with us. At the moment our main focus is on adopting a 'child', we havent yet considered from which country.

Lee,  have you found out any information about adoptions in the region?  I've been keeping an eye on your posting, as my husband and I are discussing adopting a child.  I thought (and was hoping) more people would respond to your post!

Hi Lee, like so many others we are working our through the process.  First thing to know to do is have a home study which can be done by either by SACAC at the American club or a local social worker.  It consists of a office visit with and your spouse followed by a home visit.  What happens next and what must be done is home country dependent.  The adoption support group is a great help and very multinational so information is quite vast.  The support group is also terrific as they "wear your shoes" as adoption is pretty emotional with ups and downs.  Best of luck, you are in a good place as the network is terrific here.

Hi
My girlfriend has given me the following information:
Adoption - either International Mission of Hope - 31 Le Duan, Hanoi or 168 Hai Ba Trung, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City ph: 84-8-8224556 0r 84-8-8290048 ( and ask for Beth Clerk) or emailRosemarie Battisti on rbattisti@aol.com

My girlfriend and her husband have adopted 2 children through IMH however she added that the last contact is also a reputable contact.
I hope this helps!

Don't just apply for a home study via the SACAC without getting information from the country you want to adopt from. The ministery of community development in Singapore also conducts homestudies - you first adopt the child in Singapore and after that in your home country. Some countries where you can adopt from only accept the Singaporean government home study.
There is a lot of paper work involved and laws of countries change constantly, but adoption is very rewarding!
