Hi, all.

My husband has just applied for his Long-term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP). I am a local myself. We were told that this LTSVP is only good for 6 months and it's non-renewable. What does SIR mean by 'non-renewable'? The lady at the SIR collection counter also told us that beyond this 6-month period, my husband will need to obtain an Employment Pass (EP) to stay in Singapore. Is this true? Does that mean that he has to leave Singapore if he doesn't get a job within these 6 months? If he leaves the country, will he still be able to return, assuming that he fails to find a job while he is on LTSVP? About a year ago, my husband had his PR application rejected (before we got married). Is it a good time to re-apply for PR now, while he is still trying to look for a job here in Singapore?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Apply for a dependants pass, as you are man and wife and he can stay as long as he wants to & look for a job.

Yep.

When his LTSVP expires he has to leave. When he returns he will need to go through the whole exciting process of getting another LTSVP again.

(btw: AFAIK popping up to JB for a while is not considered good enough. I think like that come back you can't even get a 30 day visa. Must come back via the airport I think. But I could well be wrong on that so I'd advise you ask SIR about it. Also check if he needs to leave for a certain period of time before he returns.)

His applying for a PR without already holding an EP is not a very good idea as blokes who obtain PR based on marriage to a Singaporean - and not on the basis of being an EP holder (ie: technical & skilled programme) stand a rather good chance of getting to experience the joys of NS.

If PR is granted under first generation technical skilled migration then he is not liable for NS, but he will need to have a job to apply under that category.

Have you had a look at the SiR website yet? There is quite a bit of info there.

Oh yes. Do try and see if you can get the DP as mentioned by Smile, as if he is eligible for that it sounds a lot more convienient.

If he can land a job, he will need 2.5kpm to be eligible for EP. When I got my EP it only took about a week to process and seemed pretty straightfoward though as usual there are lots of documents you need to submit.
