I am 26 and have just arrived in Singapore (5th May) and have to be honest, it is not looking good for me! Hopefully you will have a bit more to offer than I do, a diploma good 'A' levels (too young for a degree?) are very helpful as is a second language (Chienese,Japanese or Malaysian are the best)

I would let that dampen your spirit though!! There are jobs here, I just haven't found one yet. Would advise getting your CV/Resume onto a disk and having about 50 copies on paper then send it to everybody who is advertising even before you arrive.

Good Luck, You will love it here!!!

At 17, you options are pretty limited to retail sales and restaurant service. Depending on whether you are looking for full or part time, I would look into hotels also. Hotels pay a bit more. Your chances are better if you are female as young females tend to be more composed then young males. FYI, going retail for someone your age is probably about $900-$1100 per month. Food service is $1000-$1200 and hotel reception is $1400. If you would like, you can contact me privately and I can try to point you in the right direction.

I am also 18 and currently live in Singapore. I've just finished working a single job and need to look for another. Would you be able to give me any advice or contacts for possibly working in a hotel or bar?

You don't say whether you are coming here to study or not. If you are hoping just to pick up some regular work, I hate to be pessimistic but if you are on a dependent pass then your chances are very slim. For regular employement you require consent from the Ministry of Manpower. As a young, unqualified person your chances are very slim. Even if you can pick up some waiting work, there is no tenure.
