Hongkers still expensive ???

I live in Singapore and am considering a role in HKG. I have 2 kids under five and a 6 month old. My wife does not work and I earn about $180k SGD package. We live in a 3brm 1700sft condo here.

The offer in HKG is relocation + $1m HKD

No housing, schooling etc.

Reason for considering is the career opportunity and just to live in another country that is buzzing.

Concern is family and living standard. Presume we would need a car with 3 young kids and AIS school.

Any advice on current living costs and wether the salary is liveable is appreciated.

You will find HK very expensive; especially food and accommodation.  Are you local or expat?  If you are an expat, why go to HK on local terms?  That is just nonsense.  If they want to do this on the cheap, they should hre locals not expats.

HK is MUCH cheaper than it used to be but $1mill is only about HK$85k per month.   To get a decent place  you would still be looking at about $35k pcm minimum (Clearwater Bay) or on Victoria itself.  You could find a cheaper place (I looked at small houses for about $25 but they are further out - which could make it difficult with kids.

Then tax and food, schooling, car costs, club etc, doesnt really leave you much - if any at all.  Whereas on your current salary you must be doing a bit better I think.

HK is great, I think if you can up the ante on the money a bit you should be OK if you dont go mad with spending.
