I have read with much interest and some disappointment that S'pore is heading into a recession.
I am in the midst of leaving the UK to return to my home country of  Argentina.

I have a banking/IT  background and just graduated with an MBA-
can you please advise me whether it is  still worthwhile looking for a job in that sector in Singapore?
I am married with two children under 5.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

You could check with headhunters (see the FAQ on this site) in banking/IT. Some would argue Singapore's been on the brink of recession for years so it's not surprising that the numbers finally confirm suspicions of such.

Perhaps there are more opportunities here than in Argentina, but tough to say as each situation different.

Consolidation is definitely occurring in the financial services sector, as much here as any other country. IT companies have similarly struggled as they have elsewhere in the world.

However the standard of living here for both Singaporeans and foreigners is quite high compared to many other countries in the world and you may find that money is not the only consideration for a move here.

If it's on your mind or you are looking at the prospect of going to Argentina unemployed then it is definitely worth taking a look. There always seem to be jobs advertised in the paper etc so presumably some people are still looking for good employees.

expensive singapore.

Prospect form home, save your money, live and eat with friends and family

Carlos :

Move to the US mate.

In Singapore they pay peanuts.

With a MBA in the US you will get at least $150K

Don't waste your time in Singapore and go the states where the dollar is green and the rent affordable

Because of the state of the economy in the USA, an the end of the .com's is no longer that easy to get a job in the technology fields.  They are over saturated with the recent stint of Lay-off from the major Corp.  Just wanted you to be aware of this fact.

I have decided to fly out and look further into the possibility of aquairing some sort of  banking/IT position-
I believe that if I persue long enough, something will come through for me.  My family will remain in the Uk for the time being.
