Usually marketing and sales are considered as two different disciplines.
As a marketing person you are likely to design adverts, arrange events, source prospect lists etc. Your performance is usually measured based on total sales for the product line you are marketing in the territory you are responsible for.
As a sales person you call and visit propects, understand their issues, propose solutions, make presentations, and ask for the orders. You have a quota and your job is on the line every quarter. Your base pay may be quite low, but if successful you can make big commissions.
When hiring sales people, companies usually look for evidence of previous sales success, the strength of your network of contacts relevant to what you are selling, willingness to be held accountable and be rewarded based on performance.
If you are coming to Singapore with no previous sales experience and no relevant network it could be tough, but you may be able to get around that by agreeing to work for a very small base salary, with a high % of the total package being commission based.
