We're just about to move to Singapore, and I will be working at Science Park.

Anyone have recommendations for places to live in that area?  We're looking for a flat as there are just two of us.  Or places to avoid?

Thanks

Science Park has shuttle service(s).  Maybe finding out about them will help guide your search - by expanding the possible areas to live.

i would suggest you get your agent to focus on the following areas:
holland village,
dover road,
mount sinai,
clementi,
ulu pandan,
west coast road.
also find out if you are at science park I or II, as they are not very close to each other, this may affect your choice of where to live.

Yikes Le Hill.  Those better be damn nice condos.  For that price you can get a nice (and high up) condo near the central area!

Condo in central area for $1700 a month? Where?

Plenty of places, I work on Science Park 1, there's also Science Park 2 (plus it's extension).

There are shuttle busses, but they mainly go to the MRT and the NUS Campus. I personally catch a taxi in otherwise I have to walk about 1/2 km in the morning and get all sweaty, I do bus back though...well, tonight, I'm jogging, but you know what I mean!!

I live just off Dover Road, there's two condos there, Heritage View and Dover Park View. Both have good facilities, and are approx 2000/month for 2+1 bedroom appartment.

There's the other places nearby as mentioned by others, Pasir Panjang is good but ask if they have cable in whatever condo you go to, West Coast Road is a little furhter, Clementi is towards the north past Dover Road and Holland Village is up there to.

Now it depends what you want. But only you can tell us that!!

Hi

I work in Science Park I too.

I'd recommend you establish out how you plan to get to work and then go backwards from there.

I knew I would need to use public transport, so wanted to live somewhere on the bus route.  Apart from the shuttle bus from the MRTs, there are only 2 buses to Science Park I - number 200 (only stops outside the park, so if you work at the end, it's a 5-10 minute walk) and number 92 (which goes all the way in).

I bought a copy of Transit link guide and cross-refernced all the condos we saw against the bus routes to see if there was a bus stop nearby.

(btw we ended up at a condo OFF the 92/200 bus route, and I had to take 2 buses, but at least in the end it was an INFORMED choice!!!  Now I cycle to work - it takes about 20 minutes)

Yeah, 1700 is LeHill sounds wrong to me.  I also work in Science Park and I live on West Coast Road.  Have a place for S$1500, 2 BR, 2 baths, nice place.

Thanks everyone...  very helpful, lots to think about...
Checked, and I'll be at Science Park I...I'm also going to check out the areas and condos all of you have suggested.

Question -- do most renters here go through an agent or direct (through newspaper?).  What have any of you had the most luck with?

Bus 92 runs often, about every 10 minutes, but does not operate on Sundays.  It is a local bus and does not travel a great distance.  It does go by many condos near Mount Sinai Rise. Then it goes by the Ghim Moh wet market and hawker food stalls then on to Science Park number ?.  You could get off the bus and buy food or do errands as there are a few stores at Ghim Moh.
