Does anyone know "The Advertiser" ... I have just seen a job vacancy for them but even though I did a search on the net couldn't find out what they are actually doing ... is it a newspaper?

Are you serious? Many companies prefer to remain anonymous when they are advertising, hence "please reply to 'The Advertiser'" with the address/box no.

The Adelaide Advertiser also known as "The Advertiser" is the largest daily newspaper in South Australia and the flagship of Rupert Murdoch's mediacorp.

It could be a reference to them.

Come on now guys.....If you come from a transparent society, unlike Singapore, you wouldn't even think that an employer would advertise a job anonymously like that.

And how can you possible not think that the various authorities in Singapore are joking when you find out that you are required to state your race on all sorts of documents. I just couldn't believe it was for real the first time.

Huh? What's this got to do with transparency? My company (MNC) has done it before. The reason for it is that we're doing the hiring on behalf of our contractors. e.g. I have a project contracted out, they need a support person - we hire on their behalf (interview, training, pay).

We also don't want to let our competitors know that we're hiring a whole bunch of this support level staff as it will let them have an idea of our activity here.

You kind of prove my point. Secrecy vs. transparecy.

Lars - Aren't you being just a little bit paranoid?

Companies all over the world treat hiring & firing in a confidential way; they don't want the competition to know how good/bad business is.

If it's a head hunter who is doing the advertising then he is even less likely to put down the Client's name. Nothing to do with transparency.

Maybe I am not so paranoid, just a little irritated about the whole thing :-)

Accenture made me fill in my race for an application in UK. Lars, if they want to discriminate against you, they can mostly guess what race you are by your name, your nationality and work experience anyway!
