Would like to discuss the advantages/disadvantages for Americans to become PR?  How involved is this process?

It's super easy and definitely worth all the paperwork.

1. Get your company to sponsor you.
2. Fill out those endless forms once again. (REALLY long intrusive one.)
3. Go get your mugshot.
4. You pays your money

Benefit:
1. CPF on a sliding scale
2. Childcare credit back (from $75-150/mth per child)
3. Free to job hop.
4. Free tickets to National Day parade
5. You feel more stable and grounded.
6. DEFINITELY more incentive for employers to hire you.
7. Can keep your foreign citizenship so why not?

Disadvantages:
1. Your son will have to do NS if he is still here at that age. Can't remember what age.
2. Slightly less take home cuz of CPF but more in the end because of employer contribution.
3. If you leave the country and want to keep your PR, your CPF money stays put here.

Not sure what the approval criteria is but it has a lot to do with employment category/desirability of skills and salary. The more the better.
