Just received a new job offer and need some advice ....

The wording of the contract is ... "commencing base salary will be $xxxx per month inclusive of all allowances" .... "will make all necessary contributions as per the Central Provident Fund Act"

i was verbally informed that they would not make any extra 16% CPF contribution if i made my 18% (?) CPF contribution. However, the wording of the contract seems to imply that i would be eligible.

?

Also, is there any differences between myself and a local with regards to the above ?

Pursuant to the CPF Act - an employer does not need to contribute for an employee on an employment pass. So you will get ZERO.

If you become a PR - the employer will contribute 4%pm in the first year of your PR..it goes up subsequently. If both you and your employer wanted to contribute the full scale (like a sporean), you must first apply for approval from the CPF Board - its not automatic.

Do like I did - ask for a higher pay as the company saves on the CPF contribution.

Some companies do pay CPF for foreign employees, usually when there are on what is regarded as a local contract. My company currently pays 16% for any foreigners choosing to join CPF and we are obliged to pay 10% (up to maximum of $6000/month). In many cases this works out better than a company pension policy. However, your employers' contribution is taxable unlike PRs & Singaporeans.

Some other employers pay the employer CPF contribution to the EP employee (subject to the $960 pcm ceiling of course!) as a substitution for a pension scheme!  Up to the employee whether they are prudent or head for Orchard....

Of course, it's declared and taxed as salary, but it's more money!!  I'd ask for it - they would be paying it if you were local/PR and the worst is they say no.
