NUS Master degree 27 yrs old , stay in singapore for 3yrs, currently working in international company here, last 6months salary avg $5000/month, single, no criminal record, still got rejected. wonder why??? what their qualification

that doesn't make me feel comfortable at all. How long did u apply..it's been almost 3 months to the day for me and I haven't heard anything.  Did they notify you by mail or email?

I am wondering if they are just trying to get people to leave the country, thin it out a bit in the hopes of having companies hire more Singaporeans.

If you and the PP aren't bright enough to work it out.. heaven help you

I'm on EP, degree holder from an SG accredited school, working for an MNC here and was rejected. I've been with the company for about 8 months when I applied.

I applied together with my housemates:
Housemate #1: He is also on EP, degree holder from an SG accredited school, working for an MNC here and was rejected too. He's been working 6 months with the company when he applied.

Housemate #2: Also on EP, degree holder from an SG accredited school, working for an MNC here. He's been working 6 months with the company when he applied. And his application was successful. The only difference is that he's earning twice what we're getting but everything else is almost the same.

Some things we noticed about the application:
- My rejection letter just had one sentence saying my application was rejected, Housemate #1 got a paragraph of explanation why he was rejected saying it could be financial stability (maybe smaller pay than they prefer), change in address and conduct (This seem to be common in most rejection letters, like a format they follow). He was even told he could only apply after 2yrs. Mine didn't have anything so I'm assuming I don't have to wait for 2yrs to reapply.

- All three of us applied around the same time, Housemate #1 and my rejection letter arrived a little less than 3 months from the date of application. Housemate #2's letter arrived maybe after 6-7 months from the date of application, and his was approved. We applied middle of 2009 and he got the results early 2010. Some say they delayed his application so he could be included in this years cut-off. I'm not quite sure if this proves that the "quota" thing is really true. And Housemate #2 is earning twice what Housemate #1 and I are getting. So maybe that gave him an adge.=D

- Salary might've played a big role in the PR application but I'm also on EP. And I know people with SPass who were approved.

We tried to come up with theories for the PR approval, and tried to compare notes with our other friends who also applied and seems like the two considerations they have are 1.SALARY and 2.YEARS WORKING IN SG. **Those earning 5K+ regardless if they've been here less than a year got approved.
**Those who've been here for 2yrs but only on SPass also got approved maybe because of tenure and they graduated from good universities.

Hope this is at least informative.

PR was approved in < six weeks, and 12 months later invited to apply for Citizenship. (Even though 4 years remain on PR)

Yes MNC employee, advanced degree, etc etc. The requirement is simple: net worth, and fiscal contribution to ROS.

Singapore's ageing population is supported by smaller working base, therefore that [declining] working base needs to generate sufficient  revenue to meet future government fiscal targets.

High income / stability is the key driver.

There will always be need for technical professionals as long as there is work, but more importantly if the economy is contracting then those who will get PR preference will be those that can be taxed and/or will invest substantially in goods and services and property. [Wealth in]

It is not simply a case of a declining local population, that needs to be increased by immigrants - it is an ageing population that needs to be supported by a bigger taxable pool.

In additional politically neutral incomers and those who will embrace the ROS are desired. Its not really on, hiding your birth country passport and leaving when NS approaches. You are welcomed by the ROS and there are some expectations.

Don't despair, make sure you have the right reasons for seeking PR. It should really be a pre-cursor to citizenship. If ICA detect this then approval is certain. On the other hand ...

After wasting 3 years working here as Sr. Programmer  I still got rejected. Good thing though I think its time for me to move to another place, Its like telling me you're no longer needed in Singapore, I wonder how many people finally realized it like me  after wasting  years here then suddenly rejected. I don't think Singapore is that great, I got plenty of opportunities elsewhere  why would I bother the only thing keep me here because  is its quite near to my home country & peaceful.. Pay wise Its not that good ... so Goodbye Singapore for good hopefully next year Tongue.....

Why do you say " Wasted?"
Presumably you were happy enough with your pay and conditions.

Wink pay wise?  its just okay since I'm single..  will wasted? PR means I guaranteed to get more option while I stay here ( 5 years more stay + some privilege while you're are PR) and at the same time its like a instant personal savings. I didn't applied earlier since I was undecided weather to stay here or take some better opportunities elsewhere hehehe..

I'm a PR and got approved after 1.5 months. I applied prior to April, 2009. What I noticed is that after April 2009, most of my colleagues and friends that applied for a PR got their applications rejected. Most of them had salaries bigger than mine and they've been staying here longer than me.
I have this feeling that they got more strict with the applications after there was a supposed increase in the PR applications during the recession. I guess people on employment passes wanted to make sure they can still stay in Singapore if ever they get laid off during the recession.
another thing I noticed was that the processing time got longer. Prior to April, 2009, the officers in ICA would say that results would be released within 3 months. Now processing time is 6months.
Just some observations.

The government has tightened on immigration. It will be harder to get PR status compared to the past.

One of my friends working in a bank applied PR for himself and his wife Sep 2009. I don't know how much he earns exactly, but I am sure it is between $200-300K/annum. His wife is a housewife and they have 2 kids. They have been in Singapore for 2 years plus. To-date, he have not got a reply or response to his PR application.

His friend (also from a bank) applied for PR for himself (his wife & children are not applying for PR) and it has been almost 8 months. To-date, he haven't got a response either.

My bf is in Singapore for 2 years plus and is turning 42 this year. He plans to apply for PR as well. All above are holding senior positions (i.e. VP or Director level position in a bank / financial institutions) and are Europeans. All of them have at least one degree, and my bf holds a Masters in Law.

I am just wondering if he will get his PR approved and how long will it take?

Anyone have any ideas?

I would thhink everyone you just described would be instantly approved.  I've been waiting for 4 months for an answer. I would've applied back in April 2009 like the other guy did but my employer lied to me and told me I couldn't apply because I had not worked for 6 months yet. Nowhere on the website does it state that as a requirement so I waited till the 6th month and then they fired me as well as some other S pass holders. Thankfully I secured another positon and managed to apply for PR and now I am just waiting. I should've just looked into it myself instead of asking the employer to begin with but it just came up in the course of conversation when I started working, they were asking what my goals were, did I want to be PR, that sort of thing.  Looking back, there seemed to be overall discouragement to our S Passers applying for PR, at one point they sent out a memo advising that no one can apply for PR without getting permission from them???

If I get rejected I will blame it solely on that employer who lied to me about that and other things.  If I had applied back in March or April when I went on S Pass I would proably would already be a PR.

Don't bet on it. S Pass means you don't have much to offer the "new singapore"

Honestly, I would think that everyone that I described would be instantly approved as well.

I am not sure if age is a factor that is delaying the PR approval. While I do not know the exact age of my 2 friends, I would guess that they are in their early/mid forties. One of my friend (the one who applied last Sept and still waiting for a reply) is quite peeved that he have to prove a CV of every member in his family (and I mean every member, including his retired parents, all his siblings, nieces & nephews, etc).

Anyone who holds a PEP or earning in the range of $200k-$300K, applied for PR but haven't get a reply as well?

Yes you do that. Blame everyone but yourself and have a little cry in your milk.

Every thought that perhaps you simply don't qualify ?

I've been here almost 3 years, got my PEP last year, applied for PR in the beginning of December.  I don't make $200K but not too far away.  It's nearly the 4-month mark since I submitted my application but no response.

The wait is getting extremely frustrating, I really wish I applied one year ago cause everyone is telling me my application would have been a slam dunk.
