Derek,

Thanks for the link.  I had a look and seems like lots of bitching and complaining but not much on the actual job front.  Am I looking in the wrong hole?  Pls advise.
I don't really want to read all the complaints BTDT and would like to pursue the serious opportunities.

Banker,

Choose S'pore, choose work, left hand side at bottom of page is icon called "jobs" with (3) listing today, but with a total of 179 listings.  As I am not a Finance type I have not used this site for looking for work, but rumor has it that this is the site that movers/shakers are using for their forum to discuss Finance in HK and S'pore.  Perhaps you should just post a "seeking work" query on this site and see what happens (?)  Many of the jobs posted are being posted by headhunter firms, but inside connection, knowledge of an opening is still best route.

Good Luck in your search!

How do these 'headhunters' view being contacted by candidates?  Usually they want to seek employees rather than receive unsolicited cv's?  I gather from reading his site and others that they find people NOT jobs?!  And, that they are a pretty arrogant lot...

Have a look at Michael Page's website:  www.michaelpage.net

You can search all the roles that they have in all locations that are of interest to you from the one site.

I'd say you just missed the "golden period" in Asia for I-banking.  From Christmas last year until September there was a hiring frenzy going on.  Offers came in from almost every bank in a very short period - very attractive offers I might add...
Now we are heading into what many suspect will be a bear market (even with a "soft landing") and last year's hiring has lead to what many believe to be overcapacity.  Most / all of the banks are now sceptical about hiring new people and those that are hired are highly scrutinized.
The other phenomenon was the death of the dotcom.  The B2B (Back to Banking) flow from the dotcoms has been overwhealming and, almost across the board, is met with a "No" (mostly due to the fact that when these people left they did so with flying middle fingers).
My point is that it may be difficult, particularly if you are looking to hit the bulge bracket.

That's my $0.02
