Hi,
I'm an engineer in Singapore with a degree from a top university in the US. I've since discovered that staying in engineering generally doesn't lead to a very bright career, but due to unusual personal circumstances, I have to remain in engineering for the next 4 years or so.

My question is, what steps should I take to make myself marketable, so that I can move into something more lucrative like Finance (IBanking, trading, investing, or Venture Capital) or do a MBA at a top university after 4 years?

I'm thinking of doing a CFA - will passing the CFA exams put me in a good position to get a good job at a financial firm?

Thanks.

Well I am also in the engineering (software)
simply because that's where my skills and my passions are.

Basically if you want to make serious money
in this field you basically must own your company.

That's what I've decided to do.

I want more $$$ but I do not feel comfortable
in switching my career in order to become a stock broker or working for a bank.

you can try getting into the sales or business management side of engineering where (if you sell anything) theres plenty of $$

maybe consider a different line of engineering eg. software or different company eg. large mnc

i would suggest being in the right company at the right time knowing the right people seems so be a key to success.
