I just attended a second round interview with one of the MNCs here...they said they wud revert in some time...

my question - whats the deal with these  career and jobsites advising abt sending a "thank you" note to the interviewers after the interview in order to improve your chances...

I did this anyways after the 1st round - since i did not have the e-mail addresses of the interviewers, passed it to a HR Rep who forwarded it to them.

Now there was a new set of people who interviewed me the second time...

so shud i send another thank you note? does it work or will it make me sound desperate? whats the usual procedure in singapore?

thanks in advance

When I used to interview here, hardly anyone sent a thank you note.

When I received one I used to think it was a nice touch, although I don't think it influenced any of my hiring decisions, since I usually made up my mind before the end of the interview itself.

Alot depends on the dynamics of the situation. Sadly, if it's a local firm, they may think to themselves upon receipt of the letter, "What a kiss ass" and strike you off the list even if you were the best person for the job.

Yes, welcome to Singapore and such things happen.

I'd suspect there are even expat-run MNCs that think this way. I'd leave it be.

I believe (and in my own experience) that when a company is interested in hiring you (or not), a thank you note will not make any difference at all.

It never hurts and remember you may have been #2 in a list of 8. It makes them remember you.

Also, if you made some personal connection, weave that in.

Finally, try and be interviewed last...it has been shown to improve your chances of getting the job.

Read:

What colour is your parachute
by Richard Bolles.

Always send thank you letters.

If the company thinks that you are a KA -your would not want to join the company anyway.

I've interviewed a number of candidates and a thank you note has not even once made any difference on whom we hired in the end. But as someone wrote, it won't hurt sending one (just don't expect it to make any difference).

Thank them at the end of the interview and be done with it.

Snail mail is only clutter in the modern office, and e-mail is too convenient to mean anything.

It's better to send a thank you MMS with a picture of your full pouty lips.

would the interviewer generally reply to a thank you note? Can I read anything about my chances if the interviewer reply or do not reply?

It's a thankyou note, nobody is supposed to reply to a thankyou note.
