Was recently in a position that was made redundant due to a 'decrease in span of control' as I had outsourced the bulk of first level positions offshore.

At the time it was completely unexpected as the project was not completely finished and I had just had a 'walk on water' performance appraisal. Also ethically was a bit suspect as it happened a week before I got married and the company had been unreasonable with the time I was allowed to have off which ultimately changed our wedding plans and sent me to financial hell.

I have just received a document with my ex managers name on it in my old position so it turns out that in order to save his own butt he has retrenched me. He is in no way qualified for the position and it was even acknowledged in my performance appraisal that my subject matter knowledge was an asset to him and kept the department afloat.

Should I be really pissed off with this or is this just a case of 'unlucky, fact of life'....

I would say you have every right to be pissed off and also that it is a case of being an unlucky fact of life.

Maybe a few other people also got retrenched as a result of you shipping work offshore?

I wonder what their take on it is?

Unfortunately doing what is right for the company, often doesn't lead to the recognition you may think you deserve.

Contrary to what management gurus tend to preach, the people who keep their jobs, are usually the ones with the brownest noses, rather than the ones who actually do something.

Every single person in Singapore was redeployed within the organisation, many to much better jobs but thanks for your judgement.....

So outsourcing ended up costing much more than not outsourcing?

The people who were doing the work previously ended up getting paid more, plus the outsourcer had to be paid on top of that.

May be that was the flaw in your approach?
