This is the same problem with me also. These bull **** guys take the production support and all other sorts of kachra work from US/UK.. and dump it over the poor People ( mostly software INDIAN enginneers working here as humble production support guys..).  
And the interviewers as lie for just to get somebody to be used as a BALI KAA BAKRA to ensure that they get 500 $ for the head they are placing to cleints like..so many big banks... These bodyshpper INDIANS are by themselves letting their fellow indians down.. SHAME on them .

on the salary side in singapore just remember its still very competative eg 10 to 20 candidates interviewed for each vacancy advertsed.

so key is to know the employer and how well they pay relative to other for this kind of role. then you need to show value and be competative. this assumes you apply direct, if you go via a head hunter they can help negotiate and you will probably get a better deal. big HOWEVER of course your chances of getting a job direct maybe higher - so depends how much you want the job and if what they offer you you in remuneration will keep you there for 2 years or more.
