On Line TEFL

I noticed that there is an online TEFL course available.  It lasts for 40 hours and cost around $550 Sing dollars.  Has anyone heard of this course ?

I just found the site I think you are refering too.  It dosen't mention how you get classroom training with real students.
I haven't tried the course but would think this would be something worth considering.

i came across it once but dropped the idea after some time, hmm... was wondering the reliability of the awarding body for the TEFL course?

Think I have raised more questions than answers but nevertheless thanks for the responses.  Rosie I am not sure about the course but it sounds okay and we are thinking of using it to get at least some formal training with which to prepare my wife.

There is one at the British Council buts it $4K and whilst the money isnt the issue - value for money is.  My instincts tell me that the BC course would be better but the other course is endorsed by TEFL so I am still searching

Deakin University (Victoria Aust) and Macquarie University (NSW Aust) both offer Post grad Certificates in TESOL on line.  I have asked both unis to clarify TESOL vs TEFL and neither were able to tell me the real difference.  From what I can gather TEFL isn't as well known in Aust.  TESOL is Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
The courses are 1 year ft/2 years pt and about A$5k.  
If you want to start 2nd semester the applications need to be in next week 30/5.
I've just applied for both of these courses over the British Council one as a) I have the time to do them and actually want to kill time and b) for the extra money - I will come out of it with a University post grad certificate.
In Singapore there was a group called the "Boston" Language school or something like it, which I think was around 3.5k.  They used to advertise in "Today" but haven't seen their ads for a month or so.

I did the CELTA course at BC in Singapore - let me tell you that anyone with high blood pressure, heart problems, marital problems or any other stressful background shoudl avoid it like the plague.
One of the tutors there has a superior attitude - if you have a higher degree than him ( say Masters or PHD in some other field ) he will mark you down.
Coupled with mood swings and severe verbal abuse, it is not a course for the fainthearted.

Many people I have talked to since completing the course have had problems with the way that the course in Singapore is being handled.

Do you really want to pay $4K to get abused?

AND if you are not white, don't bother going for a CELTA course - no one in Singapore will employ you.
Classmates who are white have no problem getting jobs but pay is $30 per hour.
