Hi,

I've recently been given the oppertunity to work in Singapore, so i've been looking around the web trying to find out some more about the place.

So far i've found out that looks nice, has good weather (apart from the rainy season - when ever that is ?), that you can be fined for dropping litter, and that crime is very low.

All of this sounds great (apart from the fines - not that I want to drop litter!).  What i'd really like to know is what parts of the city are good to live in, what kind of work packages i should expect from my employer (what is typical ?), and how the transportation is  ?  Is it a good idea to have a car, or is it much better than the uk ?

I also have one other small question.  I'm single, so moving out there is not a problem, but I do have a cat.  What is the situation with pets ?  Can you import them, or are the stories i've heard about cats being eaten true ?

Sorry if this sounds a bit rambling, but i really am just starting to look for info, so any insights anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

This is one of the best web sites i've found so far as well.

Thanks, any help appreciated.

Rgds,

Andy

Hi Andy,

We won't be able to give you much help unless you can provide more input. eg. What sort of job will you be doing? Can you command an expat package or resort to a local one?Where will you be working? Do you want to live near your work place or the city? What sort of things you enjoy doing? If outdoorsy stuff, then the east coast. How much you earn will sort of predetermine if you can afford a car here? etc...

Forget bringing over the cat and adopt one at the SPCA instead. You will spare agonizing your cat and help save the other.

Thanks for the two replies.

The work would be in Semiconductors.  That's about all i know so far.  We are only at the very early stages of sorting this out, which is why Ii'm trying to form some picture of what Singapore is like, and what kind of questions i should be asking my employer.

I guess the question about the cat has been answered - I could import him (and stress him out in the process), and they aren't eaten!

Cheers,

Andy
