I agree with normal. No kids - i.e. coming as a couple or single, is a vastly different thing IMO (In my opinion). $150k as a single guy would be fine.

I know parents with no car and it is a pain.  Soccer and other kids's activities on the weekends, grocery getting, trips to the doctor etc., etc. are all more complex without a car.  Don't get me wrong it is totally doable.  But if you have a car now, or likely 2 like most Americans, it will bug you not to have one.

My son goes to SAS.  I won't get into the comparison debate about local vs. SAS vs. any other school.  There are 3,300 kids in SAS, the quality of education and activites is top drawer, I just wouldn't compromise on schooling for my kids to go to any foreign posting.

There is no way that you can even consider a local school for your children.  Everyone just budgets the money for a international school and treats it as a sunk cost, non-negotiable.  Your childrens welfare obviously will come before all else.

We live in great condo for $6500 per month, have a car and send 2 children to school.  We take vacations and manage to save.  Our salary has ranged from SG$250,000 to SG$320,000 with a bonus on top of that.  Each year we have managed fine and are making huge inroads in our mortgage at home with our savings.  We are Australian so find the tax rate like a second salary!

Singapore doesnt have to be expensive.  Housing is your biggest choice.  Schooling, unfortunately, is not.
