In your opinion...is $100k enough for a couple with no committments to live on in Singapore?

I think some expats have it pretty good so have never actually had to consider this. I am hoping there are some of you who have had to consider this. I need your help.

What do you think?

If you search on this site, you will find tons of information about packages. To ask "is 100k enough" is like saying "is my car good enough"

Yes, if it goes from A to B. No, if you want to go there quickly and in luxury.

There are families than live on 20k a year in Singapore and have everything they need, and there are families earning 1 million or more who have everything they need.

If you are a couple with no kids, you want to live in a nice average apartment somewhere, eat out a few times a month, and have the odd holiday, you will do OK, and will save a bit.

If you want to eat out a few times a week at the nicer restaurants, holiday frequently, drink fine wine, shop til you drop, run a car and have a house and a maid and a gardener etc. , then no, it isnt going to happen.

You will be earning for than most locals, and less than most expats.

$100k for a year is... 8,300 a month:

Rent: 2500 (could go much lower though)
Food for two: 600~
Car payment (not a requirement, and taxis would be less in most cases): 800
Utilities: 300 (aircon use at night)
Taxes: 800
Phone/Internet/cable TV: 200~

Total: 5,200
Leaving: 3,000 for savings and spending.

Can you live on it? Yes! I have a family and do it just fine. Don't listen to these people telling you that you cannot or that most people here earn that a month - they are like hen's teeth now.

it depends. If this is something you earn more than where you come from, figure out the bottom line difference.

I made $100k 15 years ago here, so to me its not much money for 2 people, but if your young and have lots of interest in seeing things, it could be a good move.
