Structural Engineer seeking work

[Civil Engineer]

I have a variety of experience in both the US and UK construction industries, am familiar with both sets of standards and am pursuing licensure in both countries.  My husband is starting a job in Singapore and I am seeking work at any level on a short or long term basis from the end of September. I know the construction industry is not doing too well at the moment, but I have a great set of skills and am willing to try anything. Any advice much appreciated!!!

My husband is a civil engineer ( from the UK) , he has been working for Land Transport AUthority for the last 4 years here, mainly on the MRT tunnels , however they are now laying off some expats  and prefer to hire locals so you may get taken on on  local basis. They have a web site  ( sorry dont know what it is) . Hope that this helps.

That sounds ominous. When you said they would prefer to hire locals, does this include holders of foreign passports employed on local terms (ie no expat packages) or does one have to hold a Singaporean passport/be a Spore PR? I'm interested because my husband and I will be coming to Singapore soon and he's an engineer

i understand from another website that starting pay for fresh civil engineering grads is not very high right now, & many haven't found jobs yet.

 What I mean is that you would get a job as a dependant pass holder ( ie with a foreign passport ) but you would be taken on as a local and not paid expat terms etc( which arent that fantastic in any case if you know construction you will know what I mean!!!)

You could also try  the main contractors on the MRT  lines as they usually want staff but they work site hours whereas LTA work office hours.
