Are you really sure you want to start out your career in Singapore or Asia? Once you build up your career here, you will not make it home. Have you ever lived in Singapore? really live as compared to just a vacation trip. Do you think you want to live in Singapore for the rest of your life?

Better find employment at home and ask to be transfered to Sing. Even then, it does not provide a guarantee for you to be able to make it back home.
Careers in Asia is viewed as a no-go for eventual work at home in Europe or North America.

Sybaritic- Bet youve got alot of friends!! NOT!!
             A swipe!!

To Mr UK - Also in the banking profession myself and it is as they say, no real prospects here unless you get transferred and even then its not really a wise move at the moment. I do ,for some reason, want to live in this supposed "Hell Hole" and am now looking down other avenues for employment and would advise if you want to work/live here that you do the same. Sorry!! not really what you want to hear!

Oh yeah, Sybaritic! Its its not constructive, Button It!!! no one wants your type here!!

Regency – when you say stay in London, shall I take that as friendly advice or help, or do you mean that it's a more favourable job environment in other financial centres ?

….Unregistered – To be clear….I’m totally sure of what I want.  Although I appreciate why you are saying this.  There aren’t any guarantees in life, it’s what you make it and what you create. re: starting in sg./uk/ europe/ n.america, I have in fact 16 years experience and an excellent track record.  (7 in London, that’s quite tough I’d suggest). So it’s not a case of building my career.  Besides I would of thought there is so much disparity Globally and particularly in Asia, that it’s more a case of the choices you make and what you make of it, as to solely the environment you choose to be in and perhaps a multidimensional attitude and way of selling helps increase your own mandate as opposed to swimming with the cyclical crowd.

Which brings me onto Sybaritic.  Thank you for your frankness.  To be clear… I have been a little more subtle in other posts getting at the same thing, so rather than wasting peoples time I thought I’d just come straight out with it.  And I suppose I was testing the water to find out if anyone did actually work in the Banking industry on here, no test on whether they are prepared to help me, that’s up to them, see other posts for detail. I do appreciate help and more so contacts, as anyone would do.  I would in fact do the same and have done so many times in the past.  I am well connected in London but not in sg. and I do have a lot to offer back to people, perhaps you didn’t get the chance for anything to be reciprocated.

Ironmike – Thanks for your response, I suppose it’s good to get the truth as opposed to what you want to hear.  I have in fact visited Singapore several times and did like it quite a lot, I certainly have my reasons for coming and wouldn’t describe it as a ‘hell hole’, although by some of the postings you would think so.  No I wouldn’t consider other career avenues apart from Trading, I’ve done a full circle in terms of where I want to be (ie industry) and very clear on what I’m looking for, but thanks for your suggestion.

Finally thanks to those that have had constructive comments, still not much in the way of contacts, however my personal e-mail has had a pretty good response and I’ve found people very helpful.

I'm not looking to have a complicate matters just seriously make a difference to a Companies revenue, as I've done in the past and need a new challenge.

Which area of banking do you work in Ironmike ?

Mr Uk,

I'm not aware of your education and background, but isn't it possible to use a back door ? A friend of mine started with Andersen Consulting and once he had connections within the local banks the job offers came in. And that was what he wanted !

In the next few years I think we will see some more mergers and acquitions. There is only room for 1 or 2 big players in Singapore. The others will get eaten (either by local or else by foreign companies if MAS allows). A lot of work in the M&A business in the near future.

good luck
Bruce
