I've got a new born baby and need to buy a baby monitor. I prefer one that I can move around with, but have no idea which brands are good and what features I should look for. I appreciate any tips.

Tomy walkabouts are really good. I've had mine for 3 years now and have had no problems with them. you can use them on mains or with batteries to walkabout with.
Can buy them at Isetan, Mothercare, Motherworld, etc

I've got a Chicco one from Mother's Work which is brilliant.  I actually bought two and have one 'listener' in my son's room and have one 'reciever' in my room and another reciever in the maid's room for when we are out. I intend to use the other listener in our new baby's room.  I find the reception great, and the two channels handy as someone in our building also has a Chicco and when we are on the wrong channel we also hear another infant!

be careful - i've heard from friends that when their moniters are on, some of their neighbours could actually hear what was going on in their households - so much for privacy.

used FP's (fisher-price) and was quite satisfied.
