Hi
I'm going to be leaving Singapore in 2 months. Just want to share a few things.
AS an expat I feel really lucky that I have had the chance to get to know Singapore and the people. I beleive that anywhere be it here or overseas, that some expats get a little "coccooned" into a lifestyle that is removed a great deal from the going ons of the country they're in.
I have spent countless hours conversing with my local friends, probing the singapore "psyche" culture, superstitions, beliefs, daily living etc. One of the nicest suprises was having the best conversations with a workmate whom I actually have trouble communicating with. We have very different opinions but great conversations. Yes I do feel like I have become very intoned and knowlegible about Singapore. And here are a few things I'm going to miss:
Meeting friends to "relac" at Kopi shop with my Teh Tarik.
Cheese prata with ikan curry (it doesn't get any better)
Easy to get a round on my small motocycle.
Getting to see international acts which would be really tough and crowded back home.
Got to be on TV. (who would pay me to do this back in Oz?)
The Pasar Malam at Gelylang during Hari Raya.
Hungry ghost auction dinners.
Watching my friends play in a band. (They are really good!)
Doh Sae masala at Little India.
Hindustan movies.
Chicken Congee at Kalang bahru (Damn, a lot of these revolve around food!)
Now it's aguable that I could get a lot of these back home. Beleive me, there are also things which I won't miss at all. But these are the things that have made it memorable for me.
Thankyou
