Does anyone know if VCRs from the US are compatible with the Singaporean videos?

No.  In Singapore, you need PAL VCR's.  That means you can not watch local tapes or record local programs. However, US VCR's will work with Tapes you bring from home as long as you have voltage converter.

Just buy one here.  It is very cheap.

If you plan on bringing your vcr from the US, you will need to have a Multi System TV (compatible with both NTSC and PAL color systems). However, you will only be able to watch US videos. Alternatively, you can purchase a Multi System vcr or a vcr with NTSC playback on PAL tv.  This will allow you to watch both American and Singaporean videos.

Warning...if you bring in recorde videos from the ol' US of A...make sure you record them on SP mode...otherwise, even a multi system VCR can't play the tape at the right speed.
I brought in tons of tape Will and Grace and Friends...but I can't watch them here, unless I buy another NTSC VCR.

By the way, does anyone know where I can buy a NTSC VCR? and would that play on a multi system TV?

We brought our VCR from home and our 20 favorite tapes.  Once here we bought a system which plays DVD,VCD and CD's.  The DVD's in the stores seem expensive around 40-50 Sing dollars. But I was use to buying previewed tapes at BlockBuster.  VCD's more like Sing 20 dollars. I know people bring stuff in from Malaysia very cheaply but it is pirated and illegal. I've also gotten some DVD's at Carrefour for around S 25 and VCD's S 10-15 so there may be other cheaper places to buy.
