Coming to Singapore with two kids hoping to enrol at AIS.  Maybe like to have low rise house out a bit with a garden that costs less than condos in school area and then  lease car for driving to school. Would I get a house with bigger living areas? Anything up to 20 mins or so drive away.  What suburbs are within this distance and what could I expect to pay for a three bedroom or so house.  Are houses available on estates with facilities?  Thanks for any help.

Before you sign any lease, check with AIS when and where they are moving to! I hear that they are moving out of their Ulu Pandang location into new premises - I think somewhere in the Ang Mo Kio area if I'm not mistaken (North/central area). Rental properties would certainly be much cheaper out there as it is not an established 'expat' area, but that may change once the school is well established in its new location. Bear in mind that if you are too far from the school, your kids might not have any playmates living anywhere near you!

AIS is supposed to be moving early next year, builders etc willing.  I think to round about the Braddell Road area, which I'm sure would be much cheaper than where it is currently located on Ulu Pandan Road (Holland Village/Clementi area).  You could always send your kids to school on a school bus for a while, and save yourself the trouble of moving twice.
