Can somebody please point us in the right direction?Huh  Going round in circles with the embassies/immigration/employer.  I am moving to Singapore on 28th Nov, bringing along my boyfriend and 2 children, I have my employment pass (in principle) at long last, however my boyfriends LTVP is different.  Immigration now want letter from British Embassy to say we are common law husband and wife?  Does anybody have experience of this?  Does anybody know what sort of wording I require and where it get it from.  Nobody in London can help, my employer doesn't know and can't get through to immigration in Singapore.  Does the letter come from British High Commission in Singapore?  Is it safe to leave until I get there?  I have been told two different stories a) he can have LTVP for 6 months renewable after 4. b)He can only visit for 90 days in any year and cannot renew.  I am getting very worried about the whole thing.  Please help.

The British High Commission here in Singapore should be able to help you out.

Have a look at our FAQs link in this website - this topic is covered under the Immigration & Coming to Singapore link.

Cheers.

Hi,

I got a similar form from the US embassy.  You just need to go to the embassy and sign an affidavit which is short and sweet and basically says s/he is my common law wife, we've been living together for x years and I undertake financial responsiblity for them.  Then immigration will process this for and extend your partners tourist visa (normally takes 4 weeks to process).

Good luck (but you shouldn't need it - it's fairly painless)

Thanks, I feel a lot calmer.  I notice on the FAQ site that you can have a LTVP for six months, is this easy to renew?  Is there a time limit on the pass ie., 2 yrs total?  I had previously been told that you cannot be supporting a male partner and that it was unheard of (hence the stress).  This has been on-going for 3 months!

I have a three year LTVP.  I was expecting to get only a one year LTVP, but my visa is now the same length of my fiancee's EP.

You should be fine, given your embassy provides you with the letter. We had a similar situation, as my fiancee has a two-year contract, and her company processed the LTVP for me. I got a two-year LTVP, ending at the same dates as her EP.

I guess the length of the VP could depend on your EP level, but I am not sure.

I had the same problem trying to get a LTVP for my girlfriend.  When I contacted the British High Commission, my local council in England etc etc, everybody quite reasonably refused to supply a letter stating we were common-law man and wife on the grounds that they couldn't possibly know that.
In the end I collected up as many documents (rental agreements, council tax bills etc. etc.)with both our names on and supplied those to Immigration with our applications.
It took a while but my EP and my girlfriend's LTVP (valid for one year) did eventually come through.
Good luck

Get it done at the British High Comm in Singapore when you get here. They will know exactly what you need and help you out.  We are also in a similar situation.  My LTVP is for the same duration as my partner's EP.

We are in the same situation. There is absolutely no problem in obtaining a " Letter of Cohabitation " from the British High Commission. They tell you the form of words to put on the application. The process takes about two days and currently costs S$65 payable in cash.
