Well, I've passed the test I just need to "convert" my licence. I have one query though. Do you still keep your foreign (in my case UK) licence as well or does that get taken from you in exchange for a Singapore licence? I'll be hiring a car in the UK this summer and it would be easier if I still had a UK licence.

No need to give your UK licence to the traffic police and it is better to keep it up to date whilst living here. So you don't have to re sit a test when you return.

Driver - I've just passed my basic theory test (I hold an Aussie licence) and was wondering what the next step is ? Was going to call a test centre, but noticed your post and thought I'd ask.

You'll need to go to Traffic Police Headquarters at Ubi Ave 3.  Bring along your passport, Employment Pass, current driving licence (needs translation if not in English) and $20 to convert your licence to a local one.

Where do you go to sit the theory test and get the piece of paper that says you have passed?  and how do you get the written info on the rules and book in?

I picked up 'Basic Theory of driving' at Borders for $3.

The test was OK (multiple choice), you needed to read the book first though.

There are three test centres:
Ang Mo Kio: 482 6060,
Bukit Batok: 561 1233,
Ubi Ave: 841 8900
You'll need you EP/DP, receipt and a pen!

My favourite wrong answer was:
What is does the following sign mean?
a) Road Works ahead (correct answer)
b) Hawker centre ahead

Thanks Ronnie.

BTW - a tip for people sitting the Basic Theory Test...When studying the theory book, concentrate on the sections that have numbers for answers.  Most of the questions are easy, but you would need photographic memory (not common sense) to recall some of the numeric answers.

as another tip - there are two Basic Theory Test books you can pruchase to study before D-day - a green book (completely in English) and a Pink book (half in English/half in Chinese, Mandarin).  I bought both and found the Pink book especially useful as there are 100 multiple choice questions in the back which are written in the same sentence structure as questions in the actual test.  From my exp. those who have failed the test only had the green book.  Would recommend anyone considering the test read the green, than the pink and then attempt the multiple choice questions and revise from there.  Good luck!
PS. Both books can be bought at Kino in Taka.
