Is it right for my agent to ask for a one month's rent as commission from me?
Or do I just pay half the month's rent?
My agent is asking for one month's rent on a $1700.00 condo.
What other things should I look for before I sign the offer?
A 2+1 contract is ok is it not?
And what do you guys think of the BlossomVale Complex on Bukit Timah?

Actually I think its normal for the tenant to pay commission to the agent when the rent is less than $2500 per month. 1 month rent is, I believe, the norm.

The market practice now, as stated in the Realtors Guide and endorsed by the Realtors Body, is that for rentals below S$2500.00 a month, the tenant pays half the month's rent as commission to the agent. But this should be made clear and agreed upon before viewing takes place.

To pay one month's commission is probably too much; not to pay is probably not right. Like in every business, there will be agents who are prepared to make exceptions - sometimes half a loaf is better than none. But generally, we feel it is fair renumeration, and one gets what one pays for.

We arrived 4 months ago and were put in touch with an agent via my co. We paid 4 months rent up front. 2 as deposit, 1 for that month and 1 for agent fees. Our monthly rent for a 2 bed condo is $1600. Thought it was a lot but took it as red as through the co. Do you think I can query my co. or go back to the agent or is it all too late now?

Total of 4 months, apportioned the way you mentioned is alright. You get the 2 months' deposit back, eventually.
