Hi, although I have been in Singapore over a year now I still find it tough (coming from the land of the great outdoors)to come up with safe and pleasant play environment for my energetic toddler girls - when it is raining or very very hot. Outdoors in not an issue but any new ideas on indoor? Been at Plaza Singapura recently (9am Sundays in the basement - Little Tykes equipment - deserted & I get a coffee!)but that is about all. Always looking for something new for the little ones and indoor playcentres (no Gymboree please!)seem in rather short supply (cost of space no doubt) Any advice HuhHuh

There is a book called something like Singapore for Kids.  I bought it at a large bookstore - probably Borders would sell it.  It was in the section which has general info on Singapore.  It lists all the indoor play centres plus staacks of other stuff like classes, outdoor activities and ideas for what to do with kids, with comments on appropriate age groups etc.

Level 2 at the Forum-the bookaburra bookshop end, there is a indoor playground with climbing equipment, ride-on cars etc.  It costs $10 for unlimited use over 2 years.  It is only open to public certain hours as a daycare in the Forum also uses it.  I know for sure it opens at 11.00 on Thursdays and Sunday mornings, all other days you would have to check.

IMM (Mall near Clementi MRT) has an indoor play area but on weekends it is crowded and older kids are running wild.
The ball room at IKEA.
One of the other malls on Orchard Rd, in addition to Plaza Singapura, also has some play equip in basement level.

I've kinda given up on the search for indoor playgrounds.  The Forum only allows open play on certain hours, and the last time we took the 2 yr old, my spouse complained that everything felt 'sticky'.   I am now trying to get a few contacts of people who are nearby with similar age of kids who we could call now and then when the kids need a change of environment and vice versa.

Thanks for the advice - I do actually know (and have used) Forum but have gone off it since I found tonnes of broken balls in the 'pit' and questionable other items - I do not  think it is a healthy thing - same goes with Ikea - I have heard horror stories about (yes ) even a used nappy found at the bottom of such 'ball pits' for the little ones. So I err on the careful side and keep the kids out of those 'ball pits'.

Suffice to say there is not a lot of indoor alternatives. Never mind, finding interesting alternatives to staying at home is simply part of the challenge of living in SIngapore is it not? On we go !

By the way, I too love this messgae board - it is a terrific way to network about 'how to live in Singapore'. Very refreshing and a lot of the contributors have given me a good belly laugh - great humour! Thanks guys and girls!
