Dear Stuttgart Family,

TO bring or NOT to bring?

This depends on a lot of things:-

1. Company policy
Is the company paying for your shipping - sea and air ? If so, what is the allowance?

If not, will they provide a furniture allowance on top of housing budget? If so, is it sufficient to furnish your new home in a comfortable manner.

2. Aircon ( contrary to popular belief ) does not do much to prevent mould growth. Dehumidifiers DO...these machines absorbs the moisture in the air and helps prevent mould growth.. A sunny and airy place helps too. Many people leave the air con on 24/7 - incurring a HIGH utilities bill and yet fail to protect their leather goods.. You could also try they wardrobe dehumidifiers. eg Thirsty Hippo..

3. Are your furniture worth bringing over? can you sell it or will the company pay to have it stored?

4. How long is your assignment? Will you be relocated elsewhere after Singapore?

After all these considerations, you will  know what to do... I hope.  I would recommend to bring pieces that have a particular sentimental value to you. Otherwise, furniture in Singapore are very attractive , unique and reasonably priced.

Good luck...

you'll probably get maid who will end up cleaning and polishing your leather sofa ..won't go mouldy... no worries...(after all, most cars in singapore have leather seats too) but why go through the hassle of shipping (and sometimes waiting and waiting for your furniture to come - was it LOOPS who had this problem?) ... so much choices here.. help the sg retail sector / economy

I would bring furniture from home only if really necessary to feel home quite fast. Otherwise buy the stuff there...
Don't relay too much on air-conditions, it can be quite expensive to let it run only for the furniture.
Alles Gute in Singapur...
