If you like to be connected long times and spend some dollars per month in phone bill to the internet yes it is very good deal.
I have it and will never go back to modem, if I can help it.

I would be interested in knowing how much it costs.  I believe it is very "fast". Please advise if you have costs.

The costs are as follows:
$56.-- per month for unlimited access (no phone costs anymore)
$25.75 one-off installation cost
$250.- deposit
Hope this helps!

Hi

I got cable (TV & Modem) yesterday - I haven't left the house yet!  But I may make it out for tonights get-together!

I didn't pay for the modem, but we did need to pay a S$250 deposit. We got a PCMCIA Card, although it will work with a USBport but that does need an extra little piece of kit which you may need to pay for.

I downloaded a 13.5 Mb file in a minute and a half. That's how worth it it is. Plus it's not much more expensive than a regular Internet provider.

It also means I can listen to Radio 1, and Radio 5 for English footie match commentaries etc.....

We have SCV's cable modem service and on the whole it's excellent. The speed varies from time to time but it's far superior to anything we've had before. It really changes the way we use the internet... As a previous post said we use it for listening to the Beeb, and recently watching a friend race in the sailing paralympics! Louie also uses it to make free internet calls to the UK (www.wowring.com) - God knows what those calls would have cost :-)) Also because we never log out we hear emails arrive as they drop into the in box - which is fun. Go for it!

I have it. It is truly amazing so fast! They also supply you with a huge long cable which I hook up to my laptop and can sit on the sofa and watch tv whilst on line This annoys my husband greatly which is another bonus point!!!!

We have SCV. But I recommend installing some firewall software on your computer because any hacker can read your hard-drive. I have tested this with the Norton Website and they can show you the contents of your C: drive. Very Scary....

What do you SCV subscribers use for e-mail?  I'm getting connected on Wednesday, but my understanding is that they don't have e-mail capabilities as yet.  I'm using a Yahoo! account from the States until I get a local account and I'm not very pleased with it.

Thanks!

There is some great free firewall software from zonelabs which was highly rated by CNET and ZD Net.  You can download from http://www.zonealarm.com/download.htm  The free version for private use is at the bottom of the page.

We are stuck with a hotmail account.  It is great most of the time but likes to die on us on occasions.  So we also have an Excite account for those times.

When the engineer was round installing it he asked if we had a POP email account (which you get from Outlook etc) so I'd imagine you can receive POP mail, but they don't provide you with an address.

Try calling them & checking - the guy I spoke to was really helpful or speak to the guy that come round (customer service hotline - 8737373).

I just got SCV after using Magix for two years with increasing speed and connection problems, and it's great!

Installation cost $66.95, and I took cable tv for $33.95 pcm cos with the discount on internet price, its only an extra $14pcm.

The lack of e-mail is a pain, but for $110 pa you can get your own domain name and as many e-mail accounts as you like from Pacific. How about... myself@play.com.sg? well the bad news is 'play' has been taken, but you get the idea... http://www2.pacfusion.com/sg/products/dns/
