"There are bigger places with more opportunity that offer FULL citizenship w/o even demanding military service"

Cactus - please could you enlighten us about these wonderul countries......  Both my husband and I are on "THE WORST" passports (second to Afganistan) and need to make plans for our new arrival.  We are willing to do anything even if it means our poor child had to do NS !!

K-Factor,
IF YOU TRY TO MAKE ME FIGHT, I'LL WALK
BUT
IF YOU RESPECT MY LIBERTY, THEN I WILL DEFEND YOU.

Only an idiot would fight for a country that does not give him full 100% citizenship.

I'd fight to the death to defend my own country Canada, or even the States, UK, NZ or Australia --these are bright societies worth fighting for.

But I don't think Singapore is worth fighting for.
--BUT when it stops asking people to do NS before offerring them citizenship, I might begin to change my mind.

FunkyChicken,
you don't need to do military service in to obtain citizenship in Canada, the US, UK or any other civilized place.

---I WOULD ONLY DEFEND A COUNTRY THAT RESPECTS MY LIBERTY.
Dimwits who believe in coercion have my contempt.

Well if Singapore was 10 times bigger, I guess I'd be just like the UK, Canada or the US. THere probably wouldn't even be NS! Unfortunately, it's just a small island so there are practical reasons as to why PRs, citizens or those who want citizenship have to do NS.

Those bright societies don't have compulsory NS in the first place. If you were required to serve NS because you're born a Canadian and someone else was granted full Canadian citizenship without having to make any such 'sacrifices' and yet got to enjoy full benefits as a citizen, would you say it's a fair system? C'mon.
