The selections are pretty thin. Daimaru
River Valley road was the best. Too bad
about the closure. The selections at
Jason's Market, and Cold Storage is weak.
I hardly call 1 aisle a great shopping experience.
The merchandise also tends to be quite old.
Food that have expiration dates close to the
current date is not what real Nihonjin(Japanese)
want. They never sell anything in Japan that
will expire within 8 months of the date stamped
on products.
You will just have to make do with purchasing
items that are available or even visit a Korean
grocery near Bencoolen street to get anything
decent.
Takashimay every once in a while has prefecture
food fairs; but that's not something you can count
on for weekly goods.
The Japanese restaurants are average, made
by Singaporeans for Singaporeans. There are
a couple of outstanding ones;but on the whole
you might be disappointed in them. The ones
in the hotels are usually sure things.
Cheers.
