You can buy it.  I have bought it here and have now run out.  I can't for the life of me remember where but knowing my shopping habits, try the health food shops or Indian shops around the streets by Tekka market.  I find Mustafas a real headache to shop in so I don't go there often.

Sorry that hasn't been much help but when I find it again, I will repost.

You should be able to fint it in the 'organic' stores, for example there is one in Tanglin Mall. I also recall that Cold Storage used to have just basmati rice (not mixed).

Katieh:

the shop in Tanglin Mall doesn't sell "brown basmati", they sell all kinds of brown rice blends, but none of them specifies if it is brown basmati. thks anyway!

Google = your friend Smiley

I will send the list of shops to your private account, because the system takes it as spam.

Hi OP/Granada,

There are two different brands of brown Basmati rice available at the Cold Storage at Vivo City. I saw it last night!

Happy eating!

Mustafa has it, I've bought mine there for years. (they rarely know what you are talking about when you ask for ANYTHING !!!) -- an American Brand - Lundberg is the name I think - long grain, and short grain. Just look for it at the Rice section -- next to the regular whitee Basmati.
Also, Jason's has it sometimes.

Lundberg brown basmati is available in the health section at Liberty Jurong Point- not with the other rice.

On another tack, what are some good things (and recipes perhaps if anyone is in a mood to share) to use basmati rice in (apart from briyani)?

I had a disaster the other night when I, a Basmati novice, used it to cook fried rice - yucko! It was dry and horrible.

Basmati is healthier as well, being low GI it is preferrable for diabetics over regular white rice, it keeps you fuller for longer.

I usually buy the doongara rice from Sunrice (Australian) I prefer plain unfragranced rice, it is nice quality and low GI, hard to overcook and suitable for diabetics.

I love Basmati - its the ultimate rice. Someone asked for ways to cook brown basmati  - I'm not a great fan of brown rice but have it for all the right reasons. I've found cooking it with cumin, sliced onions and tomoatoes and then adding in some mixed veggies (you add the rice when all the veggies are cooked, then the water, then cover to cook the rice) a great way to forget that you are eating brown rice....
