My husband pays alimony in The Netherlands. We are wondering what the maximum amount that can be deducted per month from his taxable income.
We would appreciate your answers. Thanks.

I may be wrong, but I dont' think there's anything you can do about it. The maintenance payment has been agreed (or not agreed) in a court of law and is based on what is needed to support his ex-wife (and probably children). His ex-wife will probably be entitled to a % of his taxable pension fund too!

Which law: Dutch law or Singapore law?
Makes a huge difference.

Because my ex wife is in UK - but lets face it S$ 2000 relief works out as S$ 400 tax saving - I am paying S$84k a year - so S$400 is irrelevant.

Tax deductible alimony - great idea.
I could get married, agree to support my wife from my salary, then we get amicaboy divorced ... and suddenly the govt takes over 21% of my wife support obigations.
Or maybe we could both keep earming, and agree to pay alimony to each other, and neither of us would have to pay tax.

ok, i guess in a capitalisitc society everyone is entitled to try and maximise their returns, but I am glad you were turned down, as I am not sure why the government here should subsidise you for commitments that have nothing to do with Singapore, and I disagree you don't get a lot for your tax dollars.
I would argue the biggest privilege you get is living in a place which affords you the opportunity to earn a high 6-figure sum, and for which you are charged a mere 15% to 20% (whatever your exact tax rate is). You are able to live well and securely on this salary, enjoy life's luxuries, and enjoy peace and safety for your family.
I am lucky enough to be in a similar boat (a smaller one, but a boat nonetheless, not a dinghy say...). Have been here for over 5 years, and still thankful for the opportunity

Interesting. Here we have a poster claiming to make in excess of 580K/pa and has to resort to asking this type of question in a forum noted for it's trolls & flamers? For that kind of money & without kids, I would like to think I would have a professional tax advisor to answer those kind of queries rather than asking a bunch of unregistered trolls.
