Just to clarify, Is that 14K Singapore Dollar or USD? Are you working as a general internal medicine doctor? Do you know what life and salaries are like for cardiologists? I am considering moving in three years from the US to Singapore (for non-career reasons) as a cardiologist and am wondering what life would be like and how much of a salary cut I would take.

Yuritrans, Thomas77, evagomd:
Asking about the expected salary range for your area of specialty is important but... the first thing you have to find out is whether you can at all work in Singapore. (Check w w w. doctors. com. sg / medicalschools. html ) . If your medical degree is recognised, then read up on specialist registration requirements at the Singapore Medical Council website ( w w w. smc. gov. sg /html/1150880211414. html ).
EVEN IF you satisfy all the requirements, do not assume you can land a job. If you do not already have a contact in the hospital, start looking up someone in the department you can communicate with. It should be someone senior enough to make a hiring decision so you usually look for the head of department. Consultant positions are considered permanent decisions so you may have to settle for Associate Consultant even if you are already a Consultant level person back home.
The pay is structured with a fixed basic plus a points-based variable component. The variable part is generally higher for surgeons than physicians.
Pay from Associate Consultants onwards range from around SGD6,000 - SGD15,000 for the basic. The variable part is quite, well... variable. A physician may make (basic+variable) around SGD8,000-15,000 and a surgeon SGD12,000 to SGD60,000.

A cardiologist is considering moving from the US to Singapore? I would have thought a cardiologist in the US was in the US$1+++m bracket.
Can't imagine why you would move here - doubt you would earn enought to pay off school loans!

Re-read the original post...the poster who is a cardiologist had said that the move is for "non-career reasons". Not everyone is driven solely by money...yes, hard to believe but true.
