our family has just arrived and was wondering if there were any hospitality Mums out there? My husband and I are both chefs - he is currently working full time so I would love to meet others that are already in the industry (as everyone knows we are a breed of our own!! I mean, who else would be crazy enough to work those hours and love it???!!)

hello, obviously not so new, it seems you have forgotten what it is like being in a new country without knowing anyone! It may be hard for you to imagine what it would be like when the only other adult you know (in this case my husband) leaves at 8 am and returns after 10.30pm six days a week. I thought this may have been a medium in which to meet others, but it seems I was wrong.

no, you're not wrong but I do think you've taken what the person above has posted the wrong way. I don't think they were being nasty, just making a joke.
If you want to meet people, try to be more general. There are no doubt some people who have got a background in the culinary industry but you're more likely to meet more people if you just ask if there's anyone out there who'd like to meet up for a coffee or a glass of wine!

very true. know some people very well with requested background (diploma from reputable london institutions, were chef for restaurants in london, caterer who did director lunches, etc) but again can't introduce you as they're simply too busy to meet strangers on line. Another forum to try is if you sign up for international association and they have events associated with food and wines and you'll easily meet people with similar interests as they go for a wine dinner type of events. the aussie one has FAB club (food and booze) and there are lots others.
