hi....in a quandry.....am gettin married early next year and have some restrictions on guest numbers...an old friend ( he is not on my list) called out of the blue to congratulate and suggested that he is free to help w wedding preps! I have no plans to invite him or the group that we were apart of as i have not been in touch w them for last 2 years...what is the best way to deal with a sticky situation like that?

Just be honest and say you're planning a very small wedding with just family (and very close friends). Alternatively you can leave the last bit out. One of my (3) best friends is getting married this year and told me the same thing. All I can do is respect the way they plan their wedding, even though I love a good party and would have loved to see them tie the knot. It's your day after all, isn't it? You're entitled to do whatever you like! Wink

Also agree, the best response is to say you are having a very small family wedding.

for us, we didn't invite quite a few "partners" simply because we don't have the space for them.  and more importantly, we don't know their partners at all and have not met them.

there was one couple who insisted on being invited simply because they had their wedding at the same place but were too busy at their wedding so they wanted another chance to relive that night through our wedding.  simply ridiculous.  we didn't invite them and they were miffed.  but we don't know them well.  i just met the woman about two months prior to our wedding.  we didn't feel the need to grant them their wish.
