I got a job offer for an IT Service Management (ITIL) position (5 years experienced required for this position) from a Japanese Bank that is going to setup a branch in SG.

I am currently work in Malaysia and wish to migrate to SG with wife and 2 young kids (2 and 4 years old). My wife will be relocating her current job to Singapoire office. Consider renting a house (for the first few months, my long term plan is to buy a HDB flat once settling down), transport, food and kids' expenses, is SGD 80K per annum a decent offer? If not, what would you suggest?

Many thanks for your advice.

perhaps you should first read a thread a few lines down "Is $260K ok?" and then decide from there.

Its peanut
Dont accept
works out to be 5K a month
Find a decent accomodation and you would have to fork out atleast 2 to 2.5K per month
Then CPF+Tansport_Children;s education etc etc

#2 is obviously a local. It's peanuts, not peanut by the way. And new ex-pats don't pay CPF.

Yes, this is doable. Most companies here pay a 13th month bonus in December, which you can use to cover your income tax and still have some left over. Check to ensure you receive this. It's called AWS or annual wage suppliment.

This leaves you a monthly salary of $6,666. I know people who have renewed their condo at $2k per month. There are also walk up apartments with no facilities around this amount but will have more space. If you put the kids in local school you will be fine. If you want them to go to international schools then you will need to renegotiate significantly.

By the way if you are from Malaysia
You still have to contribute CPF.
and the 80K includes the 13th month salary.
So it works out to be $6,153.00 per month.
It depends on your current status in Malaysia.

Short answer, no, not worth it.  See the threads regarding nursing and teachers salaries, 5-6k isn't going to go very far at all.  Double that and then you're talking.

Don't bring your family here. Stay in a rented room. Don't buy a car. Take occasional cabs. Don't indulge in pubs & cafes. The salary is worth. And, request the company to pay your hp bills & laundry.

If you have a family you will probably struggle a little on $80K. Rents keep climbing at hideous rate and HDB prices on the rise too. Maybe try to negotiate an additional living allowance in light of current market conditions - sometimes this is more palatable for employers than a straight out salary increase. If you can also get phone and utilities covered this will help a lot. Good luck!

If u r a Malaysian, perhaps u may wish to consider relocating your family in JB. U could rent a pretty decent large house for RM 1500 & travel to Singapore daily with your wife (who will be working also) using a 2nd hand Singapore registered car with instalments of about ~SGD 400 for 4 years.

Go for it, it is sufficent.
rent HDB for S$1500, the rest (food, bus, MRT, etc) you can manage .

The opportunity is better in the long term, and you will add value to yourself.
No CPF unless you are Singapore PR.

It could be tight in first few months but once your wife get a job, your family will be OK.
