I have been offered a job as a finance manager in West-Africa for about 4 years in an oil company. Rotation 28/28 and salary Usd 650.00/day nett, during leave 0. All tickets, food, accommodation etc are being paid for. Is this a good offer?

While everyone has his price, that wouldn't be enough to get me into Nigeria. I've got friends that have been shot at with automatic weapons there and the situation continues to deteriorate.

The situation in your potential host country may be better, but think carefully about the impact on lifestyle and family.

How will you manage during the 28 days off? I've done the sums and you'll have approx SGD$25500 (unless the dollar goes lower) to survive on for 2 months... that's not a lot... considering the crap conditions and being away from the family and all that.

No . It is about half what you should be getting. You should be paid for the 28 days off at the same rate as for the 28 days on.
You do not say if you are married, but if you are, the cost of running the home is actually higher with you away.Your spouse will have to pasy people to do lots of things that you would normally do.
There is also significant stress involved.

Hope to have some more news by end of the week. Currently I am traveling around 65% of the year, rest of the time leave. So I feel this would be a good opportunity. Although I would prefer to travel less and work in Singapore again, but what to do? Just have to wait and see I guess!

Reckon oil majors like shell and bp in durban are paying much more !
25k per month is about the lower end of their pay scale. Try checking out what is their hardship allowance and expat allowance. Also neg for a performance bonus at the end of yr term there.

Hi Man,, so Many Milition there , So many Gangster there ,  Everyone very easily have a Gun.,, if someone don't like you,, it's very easy to shot without thinking ?? .. these what my Nigerian friend said. Expectially in the Oil company area,,, many innocent people die with no reason.. because of the milition .   Why you want to go to that country  every Nigerian want to go to US  dude

I've been a finance and admin manager for drilling companies for the past 7 yrs. Also worked 28/28 rotation, Russia/India/China/Africa. The rate they are offering is too low. Minimum for anywhere in Nigeria should be USD 850/day. For me, I work anywhere and everywhere, including Sierra Leone in 1999. Got shot at also, but just depends on your attitude and know how to seek cover (I'm also ex military) - just think, you can get killed by a car just as easily in many countries... In any case, typically if the Company doesn't provide security, it may even be part of your job to deal with putting a security plan in place. It all sure beats doing your monthly entries in a boring office all day.

Well. Still no update Christmas etc, so hopefully soon. Dont worry its not Nigeria. A little more south. Security shouldnt be an issue. A friend of mine was there and has been drinking with the military and no problem!  ;)Best wishes etc!
