I'd agree with all that too. If you're looking for real adventure then this may not be the place, but for a first experience of living overseas it is just about the best place to try for all the reasons given above.

The one proviso is that you need enough money to be able to access these things. Hopefully this won't be an issue in your case. There are plenty of messages on this Board that give more illumination on this.

Thanks KimS...now I'm really convinced I should try it out.
I've signed my contract and I'm on my way to Singapore in 2 weeks time.
I'm scared though that things might not work out for me there...or that I may not like it at all....or that I may like it too much and decide not to return to Vancouver.
We'll see.

Thank You all!I was quite moved by some of the responses, incredible. I believe that my process may take a while and I will certainly need a "look see" as suggested. I will spend that time looking at it as objectively as possible. This board adds value in a kindred spirit sort of way that I think entices me toward an excellent opportunity. Would anyone be up to meeting face to face if I were to make a "look see" visit? Who knows, maybe it will be me this time next year with 500 posts instead of PaulN  . By the way Paul, next week I'll be skiing in Winter Park, Colorado. I'll wave across the mountains to Idaho for you.

For what it might be worth, I've been here just coming up for 3 months and my wife will hopefully be joining me from the UK once all of the house sales, etc., are all tied up - and I can empathise with your concerns.

But I agree with everything that's been said above - especially about the walking speed, escalators, etc., but then hey - I'm not 'at home' anymore, and I've also come to realise that one simply needs to adjust.  This is all part of life's learning process, and rather than getting bent out of shape about it, it's far easier to accept life as 'different' and enjoy it.

Before I came, I was told something quite profound - 'the opportunity of a lifeltime lasts only for the lifetime of the opportunity'.  So do it.  Regret only those things in life you don't do, and put the rest down to gathering worldly experience.

Singapore will be what you make it - warts and all.  But you won't find an easier, safer or cleaner place to live in Asia - do it and enjoy it.

Attaboy Ken!  It was that spirit that drove Philadelphians to become Missourians, and Missourians to become Oregonians.  Keep this bookmark and go to the functions when you get here.  You will have 500 friends instead of 500 posts.

I am signing up the boys for ski school which starts the second week of March.  We move home, unload the luggage, then head for the hill!  I am so psyched I can't even begin to tell you.  You'll see us at Bogus Basin Ski Area, at the top of Schaffer Butte when we unload from the new quad chair from the backside.  We'll be the ones waving like lunatics, with ****-eating grins frozen on our faces! (literally)

Ken K, Drop me a note before you come and I will try to meet you. FYI - I am out of Chicago area but my roots are in Asia and am based here for just over a year.
