Is there any way of getting rid of the Chinese subtitles from the various StarHub movies channels? There is little point cluttering up the screen if unread.

No.

Imagine how the Malays and Indians feel. They have to put up with it and it's their country.

Haven't found a way, but you will find that eventually you won't notice them, unless something is then subtitled in another language and it overwrites the other subtitles.

I find them helpful in brushing up my Mandarin.

some progs are now doing them in Chinese and Malay, leaving little room to actually see what you're supposed to be watching!

I wish we had a more intelligent kind of TV service where you could get rid of the subtitles.

No, you cannot turn them on or off with your remote. The piture quality is so bad anyway (and I have a HD decoder) that it doesnt really matter!

Exactly, it irritated me in the beginning but now I don't even notice it.  However when shows are on that don't show any subtitles it feels like the screen is so "clean" !

Well, I would rather put up with subtitles than having the English programs/movies dubbed in Chinese (or Japanese as often happened in Japan Huh) !

You will get used to them, it is the same going to the movies, most have subtitles, it is only when you see one without subtitles that it looks "wrong"
