Hi,
I was a Singapore permanent residence from 98-2003. My family left Singapore on a personal issue and came back to India on 2000 at the age of 13.I have not renewal my permit after that..Now i am 23 years old and non of my family members went back after that.Is there any chance to renewal it now.. I have a graduate degree from India and have 2 years work experience..Kindly suggest any way if there is one..

Thanks,
Ahamed.

Let's see; your family left Singapore before you were 13 so that you don't have to do NS.

I would say that it must be implied that you be considered a 2nd generation PR in that case.

Surely you must be required to serve National Service on your return. Anything else would be grossly unfair.    Angry

Hi NYC,
During the period which I stayed, National service were applicable only to Singapore citizen if i am not wrong. But if Singapore immigration is ready to renew my PR on the basis of serving National service, I wont mind in doing NS. But will they renew after such a long gap? I wish that at least there is a way for that.. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated though i am doing what is already suggested by few of the members in the forum.  Smiley

Regards,
Ahamedahamed.

Huh >:(I went to renew my REP today....it was first rejected....

then the lady gave me a chance by extending 1 year - because she said I was not in Singapore in the past two years...

The lady said you must have 75% of your time psyhically present in Singapore in order to be eligible for renewal.  The lady said even though self-employed person paying tax is not eligible to extend the REP if the stay in Singapore is less than 75%.

Whether I need one year of renewal or I dont renew.
Finally, I choose ONE year renewal of REP

Did they call you for an interview???

Hi all

I am a SPR since 2007. The re-entry permit is going to expire in August 2012. I am worried in current climate that it will not be renewed.

I was working full time in 2007-2008. In 2008 onwards i continued university education in Singapore and will only graduate in June 2012. During the vacation periods i have been actively working part-time and contributing to CPF. I have only exited the country twice and not more than 2 weeks in those occassions.

After graduation, I am looking forward to look for a job in Singapore and intending to stay here for years to come.

What are the chances for my REP to get renewed? The news on Spore Govt to reduce the number of foreigners worry me :s Please share your views.

Many thanks!!

Well, your faith is between your own hands (for the graduation) and ICA's for the immigration, what do you expect from posting here? At most you'll get posters' personal experiences, but nothing that will help you really. Apparently you've already done a lot by working while studying, well done. And anyway, Aug. 2012 is very far away, both in terms of Singapore immigration policy as well as overall business climate. Only advice is to secure a job before your REP expires, but I'm sure you figured this out yourself?
Study hard, believe in yourself and good luck to you, the rest is beyond your control !

Just thought i would update. My re-entry permit has been extended for another 5 years.
ICA said that 10 years extension would only be given to those who are working in singapore itself.
I had been working overseas for past 16 months; but my cpf was paid every month and my singapore employer did give a letter stating 1. start of employement/ 2 current position and that i am transferred to overseas associate company 3/ notional basic salary.

So there you go!!

Hi Chips, Thank you for your sharing. My current situation is very similar to yours. May I ask some question regarding your case:

1. Was your CPF paid by yourself or by your company while staying oversea?
2. Did you keep your employment with the original Singapore-based company while staying overseas? When did you get the letter, before leaving SG or the time you come back for renewal?

My current situation is: I am at 19th month of my REP valid period, still have 41 month to go. My current employer (SG branch of an MNC) is transferring me to headquarter overseas. I am thinking the following way in order to get my REP renewed:
1. Keeps my CPF contribution by myself.
2. Keeps declaring my oversea income and pay tax to IRAS SG.

My concern is:
1. obviously my staying in SG is less than 75%: 19/60=32%.
2. My CPF contribution is made by individual instead of a company

Will it work? I appreciate your advice. Thank you.

Hello,

i'm in the same situation as Bernardprint, could be worse since i'm employed elsewhere.

REP is expiring in mid June, but work contract is ending only in August, and I intend to come back to Singapore.
Do i stand a better chance to renew my REP being physically present in Singapore or should i  do it online? Since I'm thinking renewing it in Singapore gave me a better opportunity to speak with them regarding my situation and intent of coming back? Does the online system have such a flexibility in presenting your case? Please help. Thanks.

The current requirements for renewal of REP is :

Quote
A letter (issued not more than one month ago) from the employer addressed to the Controller of Immigration, stating the date of employment, position held and monthly salary;
or Statement from the CPF Board showing the CPF Contribution History for the last 12 months;
or Income Tax Notice of Assessment for the last one year.

Does that mean that you need to be working in Singapore for the past 1 year? Or does ICA expect that you should be working in Singapore for longer? (a search on the board seems to suggest that they would want 3 years of being in Singapore)

If REP is not renewed, what would be the status of spouse/children's PR?

Geez... Do you people even know what PR standard for?

PERMANENT RESIDENT.  If you're outside of Singapore for more than 75% of those 5yrs, and employed elsewhere, you're OBVIOUSLY NOT RESIDENT.  Why should they renew it for you?You don't have the right to abuse Singapore's system; this is what Singapore locals are so upset about with the current crop of PRs, and you make it worse for those who actually want to live here and be part of society, not just milk the system.

Let me guess, you are also renting out your HDB while you're out of the country?  When your current job ends, go back to your own country.
