Seeking second opinions from Doctors?

I am currently seeing a renowned Doctor for infertility problems and I am not very happy with the progress so far. He has all my records and a clear indication of what has and hasn't worked over the past for me. I've been with him for 5 months and we are still at the very early stages of treatment and he insists on giving me treatments that have failed for me in the past. I've been through this long, hard process before and it's draining.
Anyway, I am keen to get a second opinion and have the names of a couple of Docs however I feel uncomfortable walking into another Docs office and saying - I am here because I am not happy with Dr. X because of A, B and C. I feel that this is unprofessional and they all know each other. I also feel that if I drop Dr. A and go to Dr. B only to find out the latter is useless then what do I do? I can hardly go back to Dr. A.
Everyone tells me my current Dr. is fabulous but I feel that he is not doing enough to help me when he has a letter from my previous Doc from the UK outlining what did and didn't work.
Any ideas. The dragging on of this whole infertility thing is causing me a lot of emotional stress.

Hope this doesn't sound harsh but here goes:
1. Doctors are not gods. They went to medical school for many years, they earn a lot of money.
2. It is a service industry. He provides the service YOU pay for it. A bit like the person who cleans your house or does your garden except he charges you more.
Thats it. You don't owe him any loyalty or anything. If you are not happy with his service, go to someone else. So what if he knows the other doctor. They are in competing businesses they won't care.
Do what is BEST FOR YOU! Good luck.

you would not be the first nor last to do that. most doctors themselves recommend people get a second opinion. you are going to a doctor and paying for his service. you are not bound to only one dr for life. you do not have to explain your reasons for being unhappy with a dr with anyone. it is only your business. you only tell the new dr as much as you want to, not more. by all means use other peoples recommendation and shop around so to speak. you may find you are happier with your dr than you think or you may find another dr you feel more comfortable with. you have nothing to lose.i am sure your dr knows this is a time of you struggling a bit and want to speed things up. i am sure most woman in your case do seek other options when they see no results at first.

Go to your doctor and say that you want to see a second opinion. You are very grateful for what he/she has done but you would like to find out what someone else may be able to offer you.
He/she is a professional. If they can't handle this then they shouldn't be in the job. I am also a professional and my customers sometimes leave me for someone else. I understand that sometimes I have given all I can and someone else may offer them something I can't. I am confident that I try my hardest but I'm not a miracle worker. Something else may work better that I can't offer.
Good luck. You have nothing to worry about but you should be polite not only to respect what they current doctor has done, but to keep the door open for the future.

Have you said straight out that you have no wish to go through the same treatments again? If not do so. If you`re doctor won`t listen to your wishes I would certainly seek a second opinion.
Just let the new dr. know you have been seeing dr. x but are looking for a second opinion. End of explanation.
