I plan to get married to my Singaporean fiancee in Singapore in july.
can anyone tell me if our marriage is recognised by UK law because we plan to live in the UK after we are married.
what visa should my fiancee apply for? and will she be able to gain entry into the UK, because this month when she came to visit me she was refused entry because immigration thought she was here to work. this was not true and immigration did not accept her explanation.
all she did was bring her teachers portfolio with her so she could add some finishing touches to it, because she has got her portfolio presentation in april the last thing she as to do to complete her degree.
any information will gratefully be appreciated.

Hi wo2steve
Marriage does not equal instant residency status.
You need to contact the British High Commission in Spore and let them know of your intention in marrying a person who is of a different nationality. There will be forms that need to be lodged.
She might have to stay in Spore until these forms are cleared.
Hope that help and congratulations!!

A Singapore marriage certificate should be recognised anywhere in the world and the fact that it will be in English should make things even simpler (if for example you had an Indonesian or Chinese marriage certificate, you would have to get an official translation).
Normally Singaporeans can get into the UK for a social visit for three months so I am surprised to hear about your story. However what visa she should get really depends on what she plans to do there and how long she plans to stay.
Good Luck!
